Tina Umstead, a Servant Leader With a Heart for Her Community
Henry County Medical Center [HCMC] is on a mission to “be the good” in our community. Through our top-notch medical services and practitioners who treat you like family, we aim to share the good with those around us.
You don’t have to look far to find those doing good things in HCMC. For just over 21 years, Tina Umstead has shared her heart for our community through true servant leadership.
Tina began her time at HCMC 21 years ago. She left and spent time elsewhere, but always knew HCMC was home, so she quickly returned and never looked back. Her time at HCMC started as a pediatric nurse followed by time in the surgical department.
But her passion for community service led her off the Med/Surge floor and straight into her current role as the Community Health Specialist. This role allows Tina to do what she does best, love and support others in any way she can.
Tina’s passion for helping others receive high-quality medical treatment has grown and developed within her since she was a child. When she was young, Tina always knew she wanted to be a nurse. She fondly looked upon pictures of her older cousin dressed in the traditional nursing uniform – white hat and all. From that moment, Tina knew she was going to be a nurse.
Aside from interest in following in her cousin’s footsteps with nursing, Tina spent many years of her early life inside hospitals. Whether through being with a sick family member or spending time receiving treatments herself, she was in hospitals. She learned about receiving proper care and how to show love to others through service. The excellent care she received stuck with her and gave her the fire to help others have the opportunity to do the same.
Fast forward to today and Tina’s mission is still the same: ensure everyone has access to the medical treatment they deserve. Through her work with the Delta Rural Initiative, she helps those in our community who don’t have insurance, are underinsured, or who are on Medicare receive assistance with healthcare. She understands the needs of those within a small community and works tirelessly to help them receive treatments and pharmacy assistance.
But her work doesn’t stop there. Tina’s love for the community continues to pour out through her work with the local Cancer Support Group. Together, they meet monthly to discuss emotions, trials, successes, side effects, family life, and anything else that comes up. The group serves as its own support network for members to connect with others. They enjoy food, fellowship, and the listening ears of others going through similar difficulties.
Tina looks forward to continuing to serve our community by helping everyone receive the healthcare they deserve and support from those around them. Just like so many others, Tina has found her home at HCMC and will continue to share the good in Henry County.
