Paris, TN – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services updated their hospital quality star ratings the end of July and Henry County Medical Center achieved the highest rating as a 5-star facility. HCMC is one of only 429 hospitals in the country and only one of five in the state of TN to achieve such recognition.
The information can be accessed on CMS Care Compare website which provides consumers with information on over 100 quality measures for over 4,000 hospitals nationwide, including Veterans Administration (VA) medical centers and Department of Defense (DOD) military hospitals. The Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating summarizes data from existing measures on Care Compare for each hospital to allow users to easily compare hospitals. Patients and caregivers can also compare hospitals’ performance for many common conditions.
CMS assigned star ratings to hospitals nationwide based on their performance across five quality categories: mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely & effective care. quality categories: mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely & effective care. The measurement tool is the result of quantitative data submission dating over the several months to years excluding quarter one and two of 2020 (COVID exemption timeframe) and is a completely objective measurement. The longer timeframe of measurement demonstrates the hardwired clinical quality and safety outcomes of HCMC and places the hospital in a small and distinguished class.
“I am pleased that the quality care our staff is providing has been recognized by CMS and that the community can feel safe knowing that they are receiving top quality care when they or their loved ones come to HCMC for care,” said John Tucker, CEO.
This year nationwide, 192 hospitals received a one-star rating, 692 hospitals received a two-star rating, 890 hospitals received a three-star rating, 890 received a four-star rating and 429 received a five-star rating.
