Paris, TN – Debbie Jelks, PT, MSPT, PCS, the Director of Rehabilitation Services at Henry County Medical Center, recently announced that the Center for Wellness and Rehabilitation has a new PTA focused on aquatic therapy for patients as part of its arsenal of treatments to better serve its patients.
“Aquatic therapy can be beneficial and aid in the rehabilitation process in many different diagnoses,” said Jelks.
Aquatic Therapy will be under the direction of Brittany Stenberg, PTA, who joined HCMC’s Center for Wellness and Rehabilitation this summer. Stenberg is from Jackson, TN and is a strong proponent of water as a mode of therapy.
“Water offers support, buoyancy, resistance and hydrostatic pressure that make it ideal for therapeutic environments,” explained Stenberg. “The water takes pressure off of weight-bearing joints that make it possible for patients to return to a higher level of function quicker due to less painful movement in the water.”
Stenberg works in the water with patients in the Center for Wellness and Rehabilitation’s on-site therapy pool. “Our pool is kept at a warm temperature that makes it soothing for people who suffer from fybromyalgia, arthritis and even those who are recovering from surgery,” said Stenberg, noting that the pool is located in a self-contained room which offers privacy to patients during their individual therapy sessions.
