PARIS, TN – Henry County Medical Center is supporting the National Stroke Association in honor of National Stroke Awareness Month. Every year, the National Stroke Association leads the stroke community in providing engaging ways to learn about stroke, sharable resources, and opportunities to participate.
Nearly 800,000 people in the U.S. experience a stroke each year, and someone dies from stroke every four minutes. Knowing the signs and symptoms of a stroke is the first step to ensuring medical help is received. If you notice the following sudden symptoms, call 911 immediately:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking, or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
If you or a loved one is faced with a stroke, Henry County Healthcare Center’s Plumley Rehabilitation Center is here to offer the best of care for you or your loved one after an event like this occurs. Plumley Rehabilitation Center focuses on rehabilitation for patients who may have developed weakness and functional loss due to conditions like a stroke. Our speech, physical and occupational therapists work together with physicians to provide a fully integrated team approach to help patients achieve their full potential.
Plumley Rehabilitation Center is equipped with the LiteGait system by Mobility Research. The LiteGate system allows patients to obtain supported suspension, comfortably walk in an environment free from falls, increase or decrease the weight bearing load on the weaker side of the body and learn to walk with proper upright posture, to name a few. The LiteGate system is designed to assist patients whom have suffered a CVA or stroke, motor vehicle accident, or other conditions resulting in muscle weakness causing the patients to no longer bear weight on their lower extremities and walk.
The National Stroke Association is the nation’s oldest national nonprofit that focuses 100 percent of its efforts on stroke by developing compelling education and programs focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support for all impacted by stroke. Stroke education and programs are provided to stroke survivors, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
