Paris, TN – Cancer patients have to go through so much from diagnosis to treatment, so the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation is happy to offer something to help put a smile on their faces. The Caring Hearts Fund hopes that its Annual Ed Roberts Caring Hearts Fund Cancer Survivors’ Dinner did just that for cancer survivors and their special guests who attended the dinner on December 5.
This event was established by the late Ed Roberts in the basement of the HCMC Cancer Center in 1989 with only a few dollars and 20 guests. The event was then taken over by his wife Barbara after his passing. Barbara gave the dinner over to the Caring Hearts Fund and the Cancer Care Center, but serves as the event organizer. Without Barbara this event would not be as successful as it continues to be.
The Caring Hearts Fund would not be able make this a special evening for cancer survivors without the help of the community. This year the event was held at Maplewood Baptist Church in Paris, TN, on Thursday, December 5 at 6 p.m. With the help of our volunteer servers, a traditional holiday meal was served along with entertainment by Gary Morris. There were 101 cancer survivors in attendance and many special guests, bringing the evening total to nearly 200 guests.
Each cancer survivor was gifted with a Christmas present, because of businesses and individuals that donated to make it possible. We are grateful for the years of support that Henry County continues to provide. We are saying “Thank You” for those who contributed and showed love to those who have been through so much.
The Caring Hearts Fund of the Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation is a local fund that provides financial assistance for co-pays, insurance premiums, medications and transportation to those cancer patients whom are undergoing cancer treatment at the local Cancer Care Center Henry County and Outpatient Infusion at Henry County Medical Center.
