Cancer patients in Henry County and the surround area are fortunate to have a premier cancer center, right in their back yard. West Cancer Center & Research Institute purchased the Cancer Center from the late William Permenter, MD and continues to partner with Henry County Medical Center with the most advanced radiotherapy technology. Dr. Paul Koerner leads the Radiation Oncology Department and works closely with Dr. Liangping Wang, Medical Oncologist from West Cancer Center.

Patients have the benefit of a team approach by collaboration with multiple specialties at West and access to the latest treatments and technology, like the Elekta linear accelerator.

What is a linear accelerator?

A linear accelerator (LINAC) destroys cancer cells with highly focused, high energy x-rays or electrons, that conform to the tumor’s shape while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. Our Radiation Oncology department has the top of line LINAC called the Elekta Infinity. Radiation Linear offers dynamic treatments with confident does delivery and reduced non-therapeutic body dose. It protects the surrounding tissue while delivering high, targeted doses.
