Take Charge of Your Diabetes

People with diabetes must deal not only with their disease, but also with the impact this has on their lives and emotions. A self-management approach to diabetes education gives people the knowledge, tools and confidence to take day to day responsibility of their diabetes care. It's Time to Take Charge The Paris and Henry County Healthcare Foundation, GrowWell, and Henry County Medical Center will be offering a free Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program workshop. The 6-week program is designed for people with diabetes and caregivers to learn basic skills necessary to self-manage their diabetes and work effectively with their healthcare professionals. The Take Charge of Your Diabetes Program is led by educators certified by Stanford University Diabetes Self-Management Program Master Trainers. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 10am until Noon. Cost is free and open to anyone with diabetes. Spouses, family member and caregivers are welcome to attend. *Receive a $50 Gift Card for Groceries at completion at last session if 5 sessions attended.  Spaces are limited for the 2-hour workshop. Henry County Healthcare Center will be hosting an onsite career fair on Thursday, May 19th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the HCHC Plumley Rehab Lobby. HCHC staff and HCMC HR staff will be on hand to assist those interested in a career at our facility with applications as well as the opportunity to discuss open positions including Registered Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing, and Certified Nursing Assistant. Human Resources and Administrative staff can provide information regarding benefits available to those considering a position at HCHC. HCHC is also offering new sign on bonus opportunities including $13,200 for new RNs and LPNS and $3,000 for CNAs.  These bonus opportunities will be discussed at the career fair to those interested with specifics of the opportunities. It's time for the HCMC Junior Volunteer Summer Program! Spend your summer volunteering and learning about the healthcare profession! Students must be ages 14 and up with a "C" average or better to participate. Students and a parent MUST attend one of the two mandatory meetings in order to qualify for the program. Volunteer positions will be limited. Students will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or apply for an exemption, complete a TB Skin Test, as well as attend orientation. The program will take place from June 6, 2022 until July 29, 2022. *Contingent on COVID-19 surges. Mandatory Parent and Student Informational Meetings will be held Monday, May 23 and Tuesday, May 24 at 5 p.m. in HCMC Classrooms 2 & 3. Student and a parent MUST attend ONE of these meetings. Chronic Disease Management Screening
7:00am - 11:00am
Our Chronic Disease Management Program offers free screenings including total lipid panel, blood sugar, blood pressure, BMI  and A1c.  If a person has a chronic condition , smokes or is overweight, they can join the program for free. Participants are screened every three months and receive education about their chronic conditions. All patients must be fasting for 8 hours to participate in the screening. Screenings will be done by appointment only to provide social distancing. Masks are required.
